Go Pensions 2024 DC Master Trust Report

The DC Master Trust Market: A Year In Review

Thank you to the 16 of the “commercial” master trusts (i.e. those that are, in theory, available to all employers) who participated in our annual DC master trust survey in 2024.

The results of the survey are now available in our 2024 DC Master Trust Report. Read or download the full report below.

We share this report in the first year of a new Government. A landmark pensions review is underway, which was originally intended to consider member outcomes, value for money and consolidation and scale. Themes that have been at the forefront of our recent reports. Of course we now know that the adequacy review has been postponed. We look forward to seeing how things might develop in time for our 2025 report!

DC Master Trust Report highlights

This year the report explores themes relating to VfM, default investment strategy, bulk transfers of assets and proposition development. For 2024 we added some new questions to the survey to explore master trust trustee boards’ diversity policies.

Some highlights:

  • 56% of master trusts believe the biggest barrier to small scheme consolidation into a master trust is market confusion
  • 81% of master trusts allow clients to tailor their default investment strategy ~ with varying approaches to investment governance
  • 75% of master trusts make a smart phone app available to members
  • 69% believe diversity will become a key criteria for master trust selection

For sponsors or trustees considering the move to master trust, the report provides some interesting insights for you to consider.

If you would like to discuss our findings in more detail, Tina will be pleased to hear from you on 020 8213 5860.
